Duke Scores 35 Unanswered, Beats UVa

The Virginia football team built up a 22-0 lead with 5:49 to play in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to hold of Duke on Saturday at Scott Stadium. The Blue Devils scored 35 unanswered points to finish the game, beating the Cavaliers 35-22.

Kevin Parks scored all three touchdowns of the game for the 'Hoos, including a 13-yard reception in the second quarter, that ended with the junior running back flipping into the endzone to put UVa up 22-0.

Duke got on the board with :46 left to play in the first half on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Boone to Jamison Crowder, cutting the lead to 22-7 at halftime.

The Blue Devils dominated on both sides of the ball throughout the second half, scoring three touchdowns and two field goals on their way to a 35-22 win. Duke tight end Braxton Deaver had two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and finished with 96 receiving yards in the game.

Quarterback David Watford completed 20-of-38 passes, finishing with 263 yards along with a touchdown and an interception. Freshman running back Taquan Mizzell had 52 yards rushing on 6 carries, while Parks added 133 total yards for the Cavaliers.

With the loss, the 'Hoos fall to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in the ACC. Duke improves to 5-2, and 1-2 in the ACC.

The Cavaliers will be home again next Saturday to host Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m.
