Former Virginia baseball player Brandon Guyer is on his way back to the big leagues.
The Tampa Bay Rays recalled the outfielder from their Triple-A team in Durham on Tuesday. Guyer is expected to join the Rays for their game Wednesday against the Yankees.
Guyer recently rejoined Durham after a stint on the team's disabled list with a sprained ankle. He's hitting .294 with three homers and 13 RBI on the season.
Guyer appeared in 15 games as a rookie with Tampa Bay last season. He hit .195 with two homers and three RBI, and made franchise history when he became the first Rays player to ever hit a home run in his first Major League at-bat.
