A pair of Virginia seniors came off the draft board Saturday afternoon while the Cavaliers faced Mississippi State in Game 1 of their super regional.
Reed Gragnani was the first Cavalier selected on Saturday. The Boston Red Sox took the second baseman with the seventh pick of Round 21, No. 623 overall. Gragnani, a switch-hitter, entered Saturday's game hitting .301 in 59 games this season, ,with three homers and 48 RBI.
Four rounds later, the Toronto Blue Jays used pick No. 745 overall on left-handed pitcher Scott Silverstein. Silverstein, who is expected to start Sunday's Game 2 against Mississippi State, is 10-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 15 starts this season.
Gragnani and Silverstein join junior closer Kyle Crockett as Cavaliers taken in this year's draft. The Cleveland Indians picked Crockett in Friday's Round 4.
