It was a happy homecoming for Virginia basketball coach Tony Bennett on Wednesday night.
The Cavaliers made it four wins in a row this season -- and the program's third straight win in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge -- by beating Wisconsin 60-54 in Madison on Wednesday. Bennett grew up in the state, and spent three seasons as an assistant at Wisconsin a decade ago.
With the win, Virginia improved to 5-2 on the season. The Badgers fell to 4-3 with the loss.
Junior Joe Harris led Virginia with 22 points. Sophomore Darion Atkins set a new career high with 14 points, while junior Akil Mitchell chipped in with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Senior Jontel Evans had four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench for Virginia, in just his second game appearance of the season. Evans missed five of the Cavaliers' first six games as he recovered from stress fracture surgery.
The Cavaliers are now 8-5 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
