The Virginia softball team dropped a pair of games to in-state rival Virginia Tech, 8-2 and 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Tech Softball Park. The Cavaliers fell to 6-34 and 1-18 in the ACC.
Virginia Tech used 11 hits to go on to an 8-2 win in the first game. After the Hokies took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, junior Megan Harris singled to lead off the inning and senior Marcy Bowdren hit her sixth home run of the season to cut the lead to 3-2.
Sophomore Aimee Chapdelaine allowed eight runs (four earned) in six innings with four strikeouts in the loss.
In the second game, Virginia Tech scored five unearned runs in the fifth inning to break open the game en route to a 6-0 win.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
