'Hoos Lose to Another Ranked Opponent on Road

The Virginia field hockey team wrapped up its season-opening string of road games with a second straight loss to a ranked opponent.

No. 6 UVa lost 4-3 at No. 20 Iowa on Thursday afternoon to fall to 1-2 on the season. It was the second straight loss to a Big Ten opponent for the Cavaliers, who were shut out for the first time in three years in Sunday's 3-0 loss at No. 8 Penn State.

Caleigh Foust had a pair of goals for the Cavaliers on Thursday, while fellow sophomore Riley Tata had a goal and an assist. Through three games, Foust and Tata are tied for the team lead with three goals, while Tata leads the Cavaliers with seven total points.

Natalie Cafone had a game-high three goals for Iowa, including the game-winner. The Hawkeyes outshot UVa 18-12, and never trailed in the game.

The Wahoos play their next four in a row in Charlottesville, starting with Sunday's home opener against another nationally-ranked opponent, No. 7 Princeton. The Tigers open their season on Friday afternoon at Duke.
