Opening night losses are rare enough for the Virginia women's basketball program. But 0-2 starts are unheard of.
This year's team continued Virginia's streak of never starting a season with back-to-back losses by beating High Point 73-54 Monday night at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers improved to 1-1 on the season with the win, and 8-0 all-time in home openers at JPJ.
Sophomore Faith Randolph led the Cavaliers with 19 points, matching her career high. Junior Sarah Imovbioh put up the sixth double-double of her college career, finishing with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
All 12 players on the UVa roster appeared in the game, including three freshmen -- Amanda Fioravanti, Breyana Mason, and Tiffany Suarez -- who each made their college debuts.
UVa bounced back from Friday night's 63-46 loss at James Madison, which snapped the program's eight-game winning streak in season openers.
