It took a full day later but Virginia finally kicked off the Charlottesville Regional with a 9-1 win over Army. The 'Hoos will now play the winner of the Oklahoma/Appalachian State game Sunday at 3 p.m.
Stephen Bruno had three hits and three RBI and freshman Branden Cogswell added four RBI.
Branden Kline fired 5.2 innings of one-run ball and got the win on the mound. He struck out five. Kyle Crockett and Austin Young followed with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Virginia scored three runs in the second when Cogswell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Bruno followed with a single to center that scored Nate Irving and Chris Taylor.
UVa added three more in the sixth when Cogswell cleared the bases with a double that plated Colin Harrington, Brandon Downes and Keith Werman.
The Cavs and Cadets were scheduled to begin the Regional Friday but heavy rains forced officials to suspend play after one-half inning was in the books.
