Paul Jesperson's basketball career at Virginia is over.

The school announced Monday morning that Jesperson, a rising junior who averaged 3.5 points-per-game in 56 career appearances, was leaving the Virginia program.

"I would really like to thank my coaches, teammates and all of my supporters for the opportunity I had at UVa," Jesperson said in a statement released by the school. "They made my time here unforgettable and I'm extremely grateful for that. I wish them the best and I'm looking forward to continuing my college career at my new school."

Jesperson appeared in all 35 games for the Cavaliers last season, including 33 starts. He averaged 4.7 points in 25.7 minutes as a sophomore, including a career high 12 points in Virginia's win at Maryland in February.

Jesperson arrived at Virginia as the reigning state player of the year in Wisconsin. He sat the first 11 games of his freshman season -- the original plan was for Jesperson to redshirt -- before the departures of James Johnson and KT Harrell forced Jesperson into the rotation. He played in the Cavaliers' final 21 games of the season, averaging 1.5 points in 10.5 minutes off the bench.
