Former Virginia golfer Ben Kohles shot a two-over 72 in his first career round at a PGA tournament on Thursday.
Kohles is making his PGA debut at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro this week. He received a sponsor's exemption for the tournament after recently winning his first two pro starts on the Web.com Tour.
Kohles had an eventful front nine on Thursday. He opened the round with a double bogey on the first hole, followed by another bogey on No. 2. Birdies on No. 4 and No. 5 moved Kohles back to plus-one. That was followed by a bogey on No. 6, then a birdie on No. 7. Kohles scored another birdie on No. 9 to finish the front nine at even par.
Kohles had a pair of bogeys on No. 14 and No. 18 to finish the round at two strokes over par. He enters Friday's second round ten strokes behind leader Carl Pettersson, who shot an eight-under 62 on Thursday.
