London: Harold Could Be a "Household Name"

Mike London isn't afraid to set the bar high when it comes to one of the true freshmen on the Virginia football team.

"Eli Harold is hopefully going to be a household name here when we get started," London told reporters before Virginia's practice on Thursday.

Harold arrived in Charlottesville this summer as the most highly regarded of the Cavaliers' incoming recruits. The defensive end was rated a five-star recruit by Scout, and Rivals considered Harold the top overall player in the state of Virginia.

London has consistently mentioned Harold as one of the players pushing for playing time as true freshmen, because of the speed Harold brings to the Cavaliers' pass rush. And London said that speed was on display during one play early in Wednesday night's closed scrimmage.

"He blew past Morgan Moses. And that got Morgan kind of, "It ain't gonna happen again, young buck,"" London recalled on Thursday. "So for the rest of the practice, Morgan had him on lockdown. I think the two of them going against each other, and (Harold) going against Oday Aboushi, he needs to learn how to play with his hand down and come off that edge."

Harold's performance was one of the positives London took away from Wednesday's scrimmage.

"Where we were last year at this point, yesterday's scrimmage, we were light years ahead of this time last year," London said. "Less mental errors, less missed assignments. We threw the ball downfield, some long pass plays."

London said all three quarterbacks competing for the starting job -- junior Michael Rocco and sophomores David Watford and Phillip Sims -- played well on Wednesday.

"It's been really neat to watch the competition at that position right now," London said. "The whole team knows it, but the whole team knows that whoever it is, they've seen it out here on the field, those guys making plays. So we're excited, as the competition still continues on."
