For five years, Corey Hunt's been a member of the Virginia baseball team and on Monday experienced a moment that will last a lifetime.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Coach Brian O'Connor called on Hunt to pinch run for senior Jared King at second base.
The veteran was making his first NCAA appearance and was in a position to be the go-ahead and walk-off winning run. Just two pitches later, Chris Taylor connected on a base hit up the middle and Hunt followed fellow pinch runner Mitchell Shifflet around third base and slid safely home.
"I hugged him after the game and told him he will always remember that moment, said O'Connor with a smile after the game.
"That kid's been in our uniform for five years and has been an ultimate team player. It's very, very fitting he gets to stomp on home plate for the game-winner."
