Mike Tobey's goal of making the United States Under-19 team is still alive.

The Virginia rising sophomore center made it through the first cuts for the team Sunday.

Twenty-four players were invited to the camp, with that list being pared down to 16. Twelve will then make the final roster for the World Championships in Prague from June 27-July 7.

Tobey is hoping to make the final roster and join his coach at Virginia, Tony Bennett, who is an assistant on the team under head coach Billy Donovan.

Tobey averaged 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in his first year as a Cavalier.
