Virginia senior forward Akil Mitchell is in New Jersey this week, testing his skills against some of the best big men in college basketball.
Mitchell is one of 14 players on the college roster for the 2013 Nike Big Man Skills Academy. The three-day camp in Union, NJ -- which features NBA players Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans -- runs through Wednesday.
Mitchell was a third-team All-ACC selection as a junior at Virginia, starting all 35 games for the Cavaliers and finishing the season third in the conference in rebounding (8.9 rpg) and second on the team in scoring (13.1 ppg).
Mitchell and Boston College junior Ryan Anderson are the only ACC players attending the big man camp. The list of participants also includes Michigan sophomore Mitch McGary -- one of the stars of the Wolverines' run to last season's national title game -- and rising VCU senior Juvonte Reddic.
More details on the academy can be found here.
