After learning Sunday evening that it didn't earn a second straight bid in the NCAA Tournament, the Virginia basketball team was selected one of four No. 1 seeds in the 32-team postseason NIT.
Virginia will host Norfolk State at 9 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the NIT.
This marks Virginia's 13th NIT appearance, and its first since 2006. The Cavaliers won the tournament in 1980 and 1992. It will be the first Tony Bennett-coached Virginia team in the NIT.
The bracket for the 2013 NCAA Tournament was announced earlier Sunday, with the Cavaliers not included in the 68-team field. Virginia had been vying for its second consecutive NCAA appearance after a four-year drought.
Virginia finished the regular season tied for fourth in the ACC, but lost three of its last four games -- including Friday's 19-point loss to NC State in the ACC quarterfinals. The Cavaliers' NCAA resume included big wins over Duke, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and NC State, but was marred by losses to Old Dominion, Delaware, Clemson, and Georgia Tech.
