No. 7 Virginia's five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday in a 10-9 overtime loss at Virginia Tech (8-5, 1-3 ACC). The Hokies' win is their first in the ACC this season and the first-ever victory over UVa. Tech is now 1-17 in the all-time series. The Cavaliers fall to 9-5 overall, 2-3 in ACC play with just two non-conference games remaining.
Virginia senior Josie Owen scored four goals including the 100th of her career to lead the way for the Hoos.
UVa got on the board first before Tech scored three unanswered goals to lead 3-1. The Cavaliers answered with a similar three-goal run to hold a 4-3 edge with 12:35 left in the first half. UVa led 5-4 at half time.
Virginia trailed 9-8 in the final minute before Owen connected on her fourth goal to tie the game a 9-9 with 30 seconds to play in regulation.
After a scoreless overtime period, the Hokies' Jessica Nonn scored the game-winner with 2:11 left in overtime, marking her fourth score of the day as well.
UVa travels to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday (April 11) with game time set for 5:30 p.m. The contest will be nationally televised by ESPNU.
