No. 23 Florida State swept Virginia (16-11, 3-2 ACC) in a doubleheader at The Park on Saturday. The Seminoles ((28-5, 5-0 ACC) shut out the Cavaliers 5-0 and 2-0 to secure a pair of wins and stay perfect in ACC play.
The Cavaliers managed just one hit in each of the two games.
Despite taking the loss in game one, UVa starter Melanie Mitchell allowed just one earned run, striking out 11 batters. The junior allowed seven hits and two walks.
The Seminoles scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to win 5-0.
In game two, FSU plated their only runs in the top of the fourth inning.
UVa freshman pitcher Rachel Gillen threw a complete game and did not allow an earned run. She allowed five hits, four walks, and struck out five.
Virginia and Florida State conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 11 a.m. at The Park.
