Virginia got goals from six different players in the first half and held on late to beat Old Dominion, 14-13, Wednesday evening at Klockner Stadium. The game was delayed an hour and twenty minutes because of weather.
Anne Thomas scored a hat trick in the first half and Ainsley Baker added a pair of goals as the Cavs held a 9-4 lead at half only to be outscored 9-5 in the second half in narrowly holding on for the victory.
Julie Gardner, Katie Slater, Jess Loizeaux and Charlie Finnegan also scored goals for the Cavaliers.
Sarah Wright opened the game with a goal in the seventh minute to give the Monarchs a brief 1-0 lead, but the Wahoos countered with four unanswered goals in a seven-minute span to take a 4-1 lead.
The teams then alternated goals before UVa scored the last three of the half.
