About two weeks ago, senior attacker Josie Owen set a new career high with six goals in a Virginia win at home over James Madison.
On Monday night against Harvard, Owen did it again.
She matched the Crimson's scoring output herself, scoring six times in the Cavaliers' 12-6 win at Klockner Stadium. Virginia has now won a season-high five games in a row.
"We really wanted to have a statement win," Owen said afterward. "Harvard's a really good team, and we really wanted to come out here and play a full 60 minutes. That was kind of our motivation in pregame, and I think we did it."
Virginia's Katie Slater scored the game's first goal off the opening draw, just 14 seconds into the contest. The Cavaliers dominated the first half, and led 6-1 at the break.
"I think we just started the game really clean," said coach Julie Myers. "Working hard; playing fast. And just making our opportunities count. The way we jumped out with our first opening draw, making it clean and going down and scoring, set the tone."
The Cavaliers also got goals Anne Thomas, Liza Blue, Julie Gardner, Ainsley Baker, and Caroline McTiernan. Freshman Sloan Warren tallied a career-high four assists.
The win gave Virginia nine on the season, matching the team's win total from last season. The Cavaliers also finished the regular season 7-1 at home. They now visit Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. Saturday.
