With the start of football practice now less than a month a way, a pair of rising Virginia seniors are getting some preseason recognition.
Athlon Sports has released its preseason 2012 All-America team for the upcoming season. It includes one Cavalier -- offensive tackle Oday Aboushi, on the third team.
The 6-6 Aboushi has started all 13 games for Virginia the past two seasons. He was selected as the ACC's Offensive Lineman of the Week twice in 2011, and named to the all-conference second team after the season.
Linebacker Steve Greer was included on a Fox Sports South list of the 10 best defensive players in the ACC for 2012. Greer ranked eighth on that list.
"Tough, physical and smart are three ways to describe the 6-2, 225-pound Greer, who wasn’t all that highly touted coming out of high school," Andrew Jones wrote in his analysis. "He registered 103 tackles a year ago and was the obvious choice as defensive captain for the Cavaliers this season. Improvement defending passes will enhance his stock."
Greer started all 12 regular season games for the Cavaliers in 2011, and his 103 tackles led the team. He missed Virginia's Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Auburn with a knee injury.
