Papi, 'Hoos Pound William and Mary

The Virginia baseball team remembered to pack its bats for Wednesday's impromptu road game at William and Mary.

The top-ranked Cavaliers pounded out 19 hits in a 17-2 win against the Tribe Wednesday night. The game was originally scheduled to be UVa's home opener on Tuesday, but was initially postponed to Wednesday, then moved to William and Mary's Plumeri Park.

Mike Papi led the offensive charge for the Cavaliers, driving in a career-high six runs -- including four on a grand slam in the second inning. Brandon Downes also homered for UVa, who improved to 3-1 on the season with the win.

Eight different Cavaliers had multiple-hit games, including three-hit games from Downes and freshman shortstop Daniel Pinero.

Senior Artie Lewicki picked up his first win since the 2012 season, giving up a pair of runs and striking out six in five innings. It was Lewicki's longest outing since returning from August 2012 Tommy John surgery.
