Former Virginia lefty Danny Hultzen hasn't allowed a run in his last 26 2/3 innings at the AA level. And that performance has reportedly earned Hultzen a promotion.
According to the News Tribune in Tacoma, Hultzen is one of two top prospects the Seattle Mariners plan to promote to AAA. The move is expected to be announced Wednesday or Thursday, according to the report.
Hultzen is in his first pro season after being taken by Seattle with the second overall pick in the 20122 draft. He's currently 8-3 with a 1.19 ERA for the AA Jackson Generals, with 79 strikeouts and 32 walks in 75 1/3 innings pitched.
On Tuesday night, Hultzen was the starting pitcher for the North Division in the AA Southern League's all-star game. He walked one and struck out one in a scorless inning of work.
