Former Virginia runner Robby Andrews advanced to the final of the men’s 1,500 meters, placing third in his heat and third overall in a time of 3:42.14 at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. Andrews was a two-time NCAA Champion in the 800 meters at Virginia, taking home the 2010 indoor and 2011 outdoor crowns. The final of the 1,500m is scheduled for 7:37 p.m., on Sunday.
In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase final, former Cavalier Stephanie Garcia placed ninth in a time of 9:50.74. Garcia was a three-time All-America for the Cavaliers and competed in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
In the women’s 400 hurdles semifinal, former Cavalier Ayla Smith finished sixth in her heat and 12th overall in a time of 56.70. Smith earned two All-America citations as a Cavalier, including a second-team nod in the 400 hurdles at the 2011 NCAA Championships
