Silverstein Leads UVa to Saturday Split

Scott Silverstein allowed a run and two hits over seven strong innings as the No. 4 Virginia baseball team cruised to a 7-2 victory at No. 17 Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon. Silverstein (6-0) struck out nine and walked two in tying his career-long effort as Virginia (31-5, 13-4 ACC) evened the series at a game apiece.

Virginia pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters and allow just four hits. Austin Young and Whit Mayberry each worked an inning to finish off the victory.

Derek Fisher and Reed Gragnani each had three hits and three RBI for the Cavaliers, who picked up a dozen hits. The Cavaliers had runners on base in each of the final eight innings.

The final game of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
