Former Virginia basketball player Sean Singletary is back in Charlottesville this week, hosting his first-ever youth basketball camp.

Singletary spent the last six years dealing with injuries and trying to sustain a professional career. Now, he's ready to take the next step in his basketball career and wants to get into coaching.

"He has a lot of experience in what he's doing, and he gives us all of his advice to make us better," said camp attendee Will Harkins, who grew up watching Singletary play at UVa.

Singletary, who played at UVa from 2004-2008, has been getting plenty of practice coaching this week during his camp.

"The best part is just seeing the improvement," he says. "I had a guy, a young kid, tell me he couldn't dribble between his legs. So when we're doing our drills and our stations, I always set him aside and we just do a little extra of what he thinks he can't do, when he really can do it. Just having them be positive and keep working at it and seeing the improvement, that's the best part about it."

As a player who has played at the college level, in the NBA, and overseas, Singletary feels he has a lot of knowledge to share with young basketball players.

"He knows what to do and gives us the right stuff to do," said Kymora Johnson, who's been playing basketball since she was three. "He knows the rights and wrongs of basketball."

"If you want to get better, you've got to listen to him," said camper Kendall Payne. He added that Singletary has stressed the importance of "getting better in your work ethic, getting shots up everyday, how to not give up and work at it."
