Virginia’s Nick Sulzer took fourth place at 165 pounds Saturday in the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
The third seed at 165, Sulzer (36-3) dominated in his first match of the day, earning a 13-1 major decision over eighth-seeded Michael Moreno of Iowa State. Sulzer was the aggressor from the start, quickly taking Moreno down and building a 7-1 lead through two periods after riding Moreno for the full second period and picking up three back points.
Sulzer was in control through the first two periods against Monk, taking a 6-2 lead to the final period. Monk took Sulzer down early in the period and was able to lock up a cradle and get three back points before getting the pin.
An eighth-place finisher in 2013, Sulzer clinched All-America honors for the second straight year. He is the second Virginia wrestler to earn All-America honors on multiple occasions. Chris Henrich was a three-time All-American at 174 pounds from 2009-11.
