Virginia senior point guard Jontel Evans will miss the start of the upcoming basketball season after having surgery on a stress fracture in his right foot.
Evans felt pain in the foot during workouts last week, according to a school release, and he had surgery on the foot on Tuesday.
According to the release, Evans is expected to miss about six weeks while recovering from the surgery. The Cavaliers open the 2012-13 season on November 9 at George Mason.
Evans started all 32 games for Virginia last season, averaging 7.3 points and 2.0 rebounds a game while leading the Cavaliers with 124 assists and 50 steals.
