The No. 11 Virginia women's lacrosse team fell short of an ACC finals berth Saturday when No. 3 North Carolina used a strong second half to defeat the Cavaliers 14-6. The Tar Heels return to the championship as the top seed.
The game was tied 2-2 at halftime before the Tar Heels went on 7-1 run to open the second half and led by as many as eight goals.
Josie Owen had three goals and two assists for Virginia. Kara Cannizzaro led UNC with four goals.
The Cavaliers are now 11-6 this season and have a final regular-season contest remaining on April 28 at No. 1 Northwestern. They will await their fate in the NCAA Tournament. The first round is set for Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13.
Virginia is now 18-11 in all-time ACC Tournament games.
