Virginia used a three-run eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie, then held off Maryland in the ninth to beat the Terrapins 7-6 on Thursday.
The Cavaliers have now won eight in a row against Maryland. It was also Virginia's 14th straight win over the Terps in College Park, a streak that dates back to 2002.
Virginia used a little hit-and-run to take the lead in the eighth, as Colin Harrington's single scored Stephen Bruno from second and moved UVa in front 5-4. The Cavaliers added two more runs on a Brandon Downes RBI double and a wild pitch that scored Mitchell Shifflett.
Maryland cut the Virginia lead to 7-6 with one run apiece in the eighth and ninth. But closer Justin Thompson got a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to earn his 11th save.
