Former Virginia closer Justin Thompson is getting his shot at a pro baseball career with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
A Virginia baseball spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that Thompson has signed a free agent contract with the Diamondbacks. The senior went unselected in last week's major league draft.
Thompson was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2012. He finished the season with a 4-3 record, a 2.27 ERA and 12 saves in a team-high 34 appearances.
