After finishing with a 2-10 record in 2013, the Virginia football team knows it will be important to get off to a strong start this season, but that won't be easy. The Cavaliers open up with UCLA, a team that went 10-3 and didn't lose to an unranked team in 2013. In total, UVa will face ten teams that went to bowl games last season.

"We somehow stringed together a bunch of losses whether they were close or not," senior safety Anthony Harris said of his team's current nine-game losing streak. "Starting this season it's big to come out get a win, get the ball rolling in the direction that we want it to go."

"In the offseason, that was our main focus," senior running back Kevin Parks said Sunday at the annual ACC Kickoff. "We knew what teams we have to face this year. I would just say our offseason has been incredible."

The 'Hoos have spent the offseason trying to get back on track after one of the program's worst seasons in decades. Parks says one way they've been trying to improve while preparing for their tough schedule is with an added focus on fundamentals.

"We focused more on the little things like not jumping offsides, making sure our foot's behind the line," he said. "It's just the little things that make things right."

UVa will bring back a total of 16 starters from 2013, including nine on defense and seven on offense.

"Coming into this season, we have a lot of guys returning," Harris said of the Cavaliers' defense. "Because of the injuries, we have a lot of people who played last year, who've gotten better in the spring. We feel like we've added a lot of depth. For this year, we feel like our defense is definitely a high point that we're going to look to lean on."
