The Cape Cod League opens its season on Thursday. And the team rosters listed online include three current Virginia baseball players.
Rising senior infielder Jared King is listed on the roster for the Harwich Mariners, while rising junior lefty Kyle Crockett and rising senior outfielder Reed Gragnani will both play for the Orleans Firebirds.
Infielder Stephen Bruno is also listed on the Harwich roster, but won't be playing for the Mariners this summer. Bruno tweeted on Monday that he has signed with the Chicago Cubs, who drafted Bruno in the seventh round of last week's draft.
King started all 59 games last season for the Cavaliers. The Radford native finished the season in an 8-for-52 slump that dropped his batting average to .263. King finished the season with four homers and 44 RBI.
Gragnani is back for a second summer with the Firebirds. He opened the season as the Cavaliers' starting centerfielder, but missed most of the second half of the year with a quad injury. Gragnani hit .362 in 20 games.
Crockett went 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 32 appearances this spring, mostly out of the Virginia bullpen. He struck out 57 and walked just 12 in 60 innings pitched.
