Virginia All-Americans Paige Selinski and Michelle Vittese are back in Charlottesville with the U.S National Field Hockey team as they prepare to take on Argentina in an exhibition Monday night.
The Cavalier duo were named to the Olympic team earlier this week.
"When I first heard, I didn't know how to react. Just so many emotions," Selinski recalled.
"This is my first time," Vittese added. "I'm one of the younger players. It's sort of really exciting. It's hard to explain and I don't think it will sink in until we step on the field."
The U.S team will face off with Argentina in a four-game exhibition series set to begin Monday night on the blue turf at U-Hall. Admission to the game is free.
The Americans, featuring Selinski and Vittese, beat then-No. 1 Argentina in the gold medal game of last year's Pan America Games.
The U.S. team is a mix of experienced and younger players, but head coach Lee Bodimeade knew he had to have the two Cavaliers.
"They've adapted to international hockey very well," Bodimeade said. "Obviously Michelle being International Player of the Year, that's a huge reward for her efforts. And Paige becoming one of the most feared strikers around the world, it's certainly added a nice dimension to our team."
