Virginia is among the five finalists to land one of the top high school football recruits in the state.
Virginia Beach running back Taquan "Smoke" Mizzell, a rising senior at Bayside High School, revealed his five finalists Monday afternoon on Twitter, with the Cavaliers at the top of his list.
"Just cut my list again now to five... 1.UVA 2.WVA 3.Clemson 4. Notre Dame 5. Ohio State...ready to get this over with," Mizzell tweeted.
Mizzell is regarded as a four-star recruit by the major recruiting websites -- Rivals.com, Scout.com, 247Sports.com, and ESPN -- and TheSabre.com recently ranked Mizzell as the third-best recruit in the state of Virginia on its preseason ranking.
"The Virginia Beach native possesses outstanding elusiveness and quickness, and in the open field he is extremely tough for one player to tackle. But there is more to his game than just being good in the open field," wrote TheSabre's recruiting analyst, Chris Horne. "He is a fluid and natural runner. He runs very well in between the tackles as well as in the open field, possessing good balance and very good vision as well. The 5'10", 185-pound rising senior is also a plus receiver out of the backfield, so he is a threat on many levels. "
Rivals ranks Mizzell as the No. 6 running back prospect nationally in the class of 2013, while 247Sports ranks him as the No. 2 all-purpose back in the country.
Virginia currently has 15 players committed to its recruiting class of 2013.
