UVa Tennis Teams Advance to ACC Semifinals

April 20, 2012

The Virginia men's and women's tennis teams advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinals with victories on Friday morning in Cary N.C. The No. 2 men (22-1) defeated No. 58 Maryland 4-0 to win their 90th consecutive match against ACC competition and reach the semifinals for the ninth straight season. The No. 15 Virginia women ( 18-6) avenged a regular season loss to Clemson, advancing past the No. 22 Tigers with a 4-1 quarterfinal victory. The fifth-seeded Cavaliers (18-6) qualified for their first ACC semifinal since 2003.

The men will meet either Virginia Tech or Florida State in Saturday's first semifinal match at 10 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Park. The women will meet top-seeded Duke, ranked No. 2 nationally, also at 10 a.m. The Blue Devils won the regular season meeting 4-3 on Mar. 23 in Charlottesville.
