The Virginia women's basketball team defeated arch-rival Virginia Tech, 66-40, Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers improved to 19-9 overall and 7-7 in ACC play.
Senior guard Ariana Moorer led Virginia with 17 points and connected on a program-best 13-for-13 free throws. Moorer also contributed eight rebounds and seven assists.
Sophomore guard Ataira Franklin connected on 4-of-9 shots from the field including three 3-pointers for 11 points. Jazmin Pitts added 10 points and five rebounds for UVa.
The win was Virginia’s 11th-consecutive victory over Virginia Tech. The Hoos out-rebounded Tech, 39-29, and improved to 13-0 this season when out-rebounding an opponent.
Up next, Virginia returns home to host Wake Forest on Friday.
