The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team won its fourth-consecutive game on Saturday, a 12-10 decision over No. 20 Boston College. After celebrating its five-player senior class of Ainsley Baker, Charlie Finnigan, Julie Gardner, Josie Owen and Annie Taylor prior to the game, Virginia improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Baker scored three goals, including the eventual game-winner with 5:31 remaining in the game, to fuel the Cavalier offense. Classmates Gardner and Owen contributed two goals and an assist and one goal and one assist, respectively, while junior Katie Slater had a hat trick with three goals.

Sloan Warren notched two goals and an assist and fellow freshman Morgan Stephens tallied one goal to round out the Virginia scoring.

Virginia trailed 5-1 at the 17:11 mark of the first half after Eagle attacker Kristin Igoe’s unassisted goal. The Cavaliers rallied with three-straight goals but gave up one more before halftime as Boston College led, 6-4. In the second half, Virginia used a five-goal run from 23:22 to 10:49 to take its first lead of the game.

Baker converted back-to-back free position goals at 16:50 and 14:40 that gave Virginia a 9-8 lead. Gardner finished a pass from Warren at 10:49 to give Virginia its first two-goal lead of the day, 10-8, and the Cavaliers never looked back.

Sophomore goalkeeper Liz Colgan replaced starter Kim Kolarik midway through the first half and finished with three saves, including two from point-blank range in the last five minutes to earn the victory.

In Klöckner Stadium this year, Virginia improved to 6-1. In the all-time series with Boston College, UVa improved to 10-1.
