The Virginia Women's Tennis team will host the 2012 National Team Indoor Championships this weekend at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Sixteen of the top teams from around the country will compete, including No. 3 Duke, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 California, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 10 Michigan, No. 11 Miami, No. 12 Northwestern, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 14 Texas, No. 15 Clemson, No. 16 USC, No. 17 Tennessee and No. 23 Mississippi.
The Cavalier women are ranked ninth nationally and are the 7th seed in the tournament. They'll start things off Friday night against Northwestern, who the Wahoos defeated in the consolation round last season.
"I'm very excited, we have to be ready for them," Senior Lindsey Hardenbergh said. "They were missing a couple players last year so they're going to be battling. We've heard they're gunning for us."
Virginia is 5-0 on the season and enter the tournament with big wins over fellow entrants Texas and Tennessee at an invitational in New York.
"Just every single thing about that trip, on top of the great competitive tennis was incredible. The team was together like never before and I thought that was one of the most exciting trips that our team has ever taken," Coach Mark Guilbeau said.
"I feel like this is the best we've been in my four years here," Senior Emily Fraser added. "This is the most confident I've ever felt in our team and everyone's mindset is in a really good place and I feel really confident as the lineup goes down that everybody's able to win at their spot."
