UVa's Perdue Locks Up Spot on Team USA

Three months ago, Virginia swimmer Lauren Perdue was forced to miss the NCAA Championships because of back surgery.

Now she's going to the Olympics.

Perdue, a rising senior, finished fourth in Thursday night's 200-meter freestyle at the US Olympic Team Trials in Omaha with a time of 1:57.75. That fourth place finish puts Perdue on the 4x200 relay team for the Olympics next month in London.

Perdue joins former Cavalier Matt McLean on the US Olympic team. McLean finished fifth in the men's 200-meter freestyle finals on Wednesday, and is expected to formally join Team USA on Monday.

Another former Cavalier, Scot Robison, will be swimming for a spot on the Olympic team on Friday. Robison tied with Ryan Lochte for fifth place in the 100-meter freestyle, with a time of 48.91 on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Robison was the event's top seed coming out of prelims with a mark of 49.09.

Rising Virginia sophomore Alison Haulsee finished 15th in Thursday's 200-meter butterfly after a time of 2:12.59 in the semifinals.
