Dominant Waddell, Wahoos Shut Down Toledo

A week ago, freshman lefty Brandon Waddell made his college debut as the opening day starter for Virginia, the No. 25 program in the country.

On Friday, Waddell looked like a bona fide ace.

Making his Davenport Field debut, Waddell struck out 15 Toledo hitters in six innings -- striking out the side on three different occasions -- and earned his first career win in the Cavaliers' 15-0 win against Toledo.

Waddell's 15 strikeouts were the most for a Virginia freshman since Seth Greisinger in 1994. He gave up six hits and walked just one.

Sophomore Nick Howard had a team-high four hits for the Cavaliers, who pounded out 15 as a team. Howard was also one of three Virginia players to drive in three runs, along with fellow sophomores Kenny Towns and Nate Irving.

Howard and Branden Cogswell each scored three times for Virginia, who improved to 5-0 with a third win at home this week.
