Wahoos Hammer Notre Dame, Extend Winning Streak

The Virginia basketball team kept to the same script it's been following all month -- tough defense combined with a balanced offense -- and improved to 7-1 in the ACC with a 68-53 win at Notre Dame on Tuesday.

It was the Cavaliers' fourth straight win, matching the program's longest winning streak in the ACC under coach Tony Bennett. The 7-1 league record is the program's best since the 1982-83 season.

Malcolm Brogdon led UVa with 16 points, including seven of the Cavaliers' first nine on the night, as they opened with a 13-4 run over the game's first eight-plus minutes. Brogdon has led UVa in scoring (or tied for the team lead) in five of the team's eight ACC games this season.

Mike Tobey added 14 points for UVa, while Joe Harris and Justin Anderson finished with nine points apiece.

All seven of the Cavaliers' ACC wins in January came by double figures. UVa's biggest lead on Tuesday was 24 points, meaning the Cavaliers have led by at least 20 points in all seven wins as well.

UVa's lass one-loss month in ACC play came in February of 1983.
