Bob anchors the CBS19 News at 5 p.m. & Charlottesville Tonight at 7 p.m. on ABC16 Monday - Friday
Bob Beard joined the Newsplex as an anchor in February 2012, and he is no stranger to Central Virginia. He and his wife, Ellen, and their twin boys moved to Ivy from the Washington area in 2002 for the superb quality of life and good schools.
Bob was a broadcast journalist in the DC area for over a decade, serving as a business correspondent at CNN and a reporter at NBC Newschannel, among others. At CNN, he covered politics, the White House, Congress, the Federal Reserve and regulatory agencies for all CNN channels and CNN Radio. At NBC, he covered Congress, the Pentagon and national stories for all NBC affiliates.
Bob also reported for Reuters Television and was one of the voices for C-SPAN. He has also worked as an anchor and reporter for stations in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Bob has a BA in political science from Vanderbilt University and an MA from Georgetown. In his spare time, Bob enjoys running, skiing, tennis and writing; but he is a husband and dad most of all.
Ellen owns Patina Antiques on Ivy Rd. and their boys are in middle school at Henley in Crozet. Bob has been involved in our community, serving as a PTO co-president and as a volunteer for numerous charities.
