The United Nations of Comedy Tour
The Paramount Theater, 215 East Main St. Charlottesville, VA 22902
On Saturday, November 16, 2013 the United Nations of Comedy Tour will return to the stage of the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia. The highly anticipated return of the show comes after the extremely successful initial launch in 2011 and its follow up in 2012. The tour’s mission is to promote diversity in a city understanding the need for an inclusive cultural landscape.
The show will feature four of todayʼs funniest comedians, as seen in Bluckbuster Movies, Comedy Central, Showtime, NBC, Comic View, HBO, Showtime, and other national programs. This year’s line up includes heavy hitters: Jay Phillips (African American - California) as seen in the movies Semi-Pro w/ Will Ferrell - 1st Amendment w/ Martin Lawrence - Comic View - Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen - and much more, the Puerto Rican Diva Gina Brillon (Puerto Rican - New York) as seen on Chelsea Lately - Winner of NBC Universal’s Stand-Up for Diversity - Latina Magazine - MTV - Comedy Central - VH1, Yannis Pappas (Caucasian - New York) as seen on Comedy Central - AXS TV - VH1 - CBS and comedian Funny Man Skiba (Washington, D.C.) a 3 Time Comic View All-Star - Co-Host of the Raheem DeVaughn Radio Show - Comedy Central. This diverse line-up is a partial mirror image of the communities of Charlottesville and its surrounding counties.
Ty Cooper, promoter and the tour’s founder has promoted over 800 events since his entry into the entertainment marketing industry in 1993. "My mission is to promote multicultural diversity and bring people together through laughter," Cooper said. Another component of the tour’s mission is to bring a powerful show to the city for half the suggested ticket price. If the goal is to promote diversity then one has to offer affordable priced tickets as an attempt to establish inclusivity opposed to exclusivity. Gathering these diverse national comedians to share the stage on the same evening has only occurred in Charlottesville as a result of this tour and it returns for a third visit.
