Symposium: In the Shadow of Stalin: African American Artists and Intellectuals in Soviet Russia

This symposium draws scholars from a wide range of disciplines to discuss the experience of African Americans who visited and worked in the Soviet Union during the Stalin era. Introductory remarks at 10 am will be preceded by an informal coffee reception at 9 am, allowing speakers and attendees to mingle. When the symposium breaks for lunch, participants are invited to stop by The Fralin Museum of Art to see the affiliated exhibition. A Museum docent will be on hand to answer questions.
