SACRED ARTS OF TIBET TOUR

Jul 26, 2011 - Jul 30, 2011 10am - 5pm

Unity, 2825 Hydraulic Road
SACRED ARTS OF TIBET TOUR AT UNITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE

Unity Church, the Tibetan Association of Charlottesville, and the Tibet Center at UVA are sponsoring eight monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India the week of July
26, 2011. The monks will present Sacred Arts of Tibet: A Glimpse into Tibetan Monastic Life, at Unity on Tuesday, July 26, at 7:00 p.m. During the day, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from
Tuesday, July 26 through Thursday, July 28, the monks will also construct a Peace Sand Mandala in Unity’s Terrace Level. The public is invited to attend all of these events and donations to
benefit the monks are gratefully accepted. The suggested donation is $10 for each event. No one will be turned away and children are free. Unity is located at 2825 Hydraulic Road in
Charlottesville. Additional support is being provided by the Jefferson Tibetan Society and Tashi Choeling Buddhist Center.
The Drepung Gomang Monastery was founded in 1416 near Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. In 1959, before the invasion of Communist China, the monastery had more than 5,000 monks and was known for producing eminent Buddhist scholars. Only about 100 monks managed to escaped to India with His Holiness the Dalai Lama when he fled Tibet in 1959. Today, approximately 2,000 monks study and live at the monastery. Each year, an
average of 150 new refugees manage the grueling and dangerous escape from Tibet to make their way there. This puts additional strain on the monastery’s infrastructure to support, house, feed,
and provide medical care for their population.

Near-Death Experience: The Rest of the Story

Mar 5, 2011 1pm - 4pm

Unity Church in Charlottesville
One of the original researchers and an international authority in the field of near-death studies, PMH Atwater uses the culmination of her research to establish that the near-death phenomenon is not some kind of anomaly, but is rather part of the larger genre of transformations of consciousness. She combines her 33 years of near-death research with what she was doing in the 60s and 70s, experiencing, experimenting with, and researching altered states of consciousness, mysticism, psychic phenomena, and the transformational process, to reveal what transformations of consciousness really are, why we have them, and where they lead us. This lifetime endeavor covers over 43 years of work, involving nearly 7,000 people. Her meticulous and unique protocol gives validity to what she has discovered and verified.
A book signing will take place after the lecture in the lobby of Unity Church. Admission is $25 per person. Advance registration is not necessary, but strongly encouraged. To register, e-mail are.cville@gmail.com or call 434-242-7348. Additional information can be found at www.arecville.org.
