The internationally renowned Child Development Labs at the University of Virginia invites families to their Open House Saturday September 10th: a fun and informative event for the whole family. CPR demonstrations, fingerprint scanning, information on child development from our leading research faculty, free portraits, giveaways and refreshments, and kids activities like games, face painting, music and crafts. Your support is essential for us to continue our research, so come to 1023 Millmont Street behind Barracks Road Shopping Center, September 10th from 10-2.

Center for Historic Plants Open House

The 19th annual Center for Historic Plants Open House at Tufton Farm will feature roses, irises, peonies, and other perennials in bloom. Dennis Whetzel will conduct a rose workshop, Peggy Cornett will lead a tour of the display garden, and CHP staff and volunteers will offer informal tours, refreshments, gift plants, and information about CHP's mission to propagate and preserve historic plants.
A wide selection of plants will be on sale and a Wine Tasting will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm; so plan to stroll through the gardens and enjoy the wine and roses. Free; no registration required. (Rain date: May 28)

Engineering Open House

You are invited to attend the U.Va. School of Engineering and Applied Science Open House—an annual, free event open to the public that provides an opportunity for visitors to meet faculty and staff, interact with current students, take tours of state-of-the-art facilities, and attend interesting exhibits, presentations and demonstrations. Bring friends, family members and others who have always wanted to know the answer to the question: “What do Engineers do?”

This year, there will be several special presentations: former astronaut and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs Kathy Thornton will describe the Sights and Sounds of Space Flight, Doug Hartog of the U.Va. Admissions Office and Engineering School Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs Ed Berger will discuss admissions and curriculum matters and Professor Larry Richards will highlight some Engineering Greats.

Charlottesville, VA – Are you one of the millions of people that have an overwhelming fear of public speaking? Have you ever felt nervous about speaking in front of just a few people giving a presentation at work? Could you stand to improve your performance in your next job interview? Would you like to develop additional leadership skills or be able to get your point across more effectively? Toastmasters can help.
The Blue Ridge Toastmasters Club will host an open-house meeting on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library - Central Library located on 201 E. Market Street, Charlottesville, VA near the Downtown Mall.
The mission of the Blue Ridge Toastmasters is to serve and support our members in the spirit of 'Friends Helping Friends Reach Their Potential' by providing a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which fosters self-confidence and personal growth. It is all about your personal growth and success by helping others achieve the same.
The open-house will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the McIntire Room, located on the third floor of the Central Library. Along with an information session and a ‘meet-and-greet’, a Toastmasters meeting will be held to allow guest to experience, observe, and comment on a meeting in a friendly environment. A question and answer session will be held afterwards as well.
