It seemed that the happy ending would come true. In the first half of Saturday afternoon's showdown with in state rival Virginia Tech, the Cavalier football team came out firing on all cylinders. Jameel Sewell engineered an opening drive which was capped off with a 15 yard touchdown run by the senior quarterback as the Cavs took a 7-0 lead.

However, the Hokies answered right back. A Ryan Williams five yard touchdown run brought the game back to even at seven. With Virginia ahead 10-7, Williams struck again. This time an option play from 20 yards out put Tech back in the endzone and into the lead for the first time on the night.

The Hokies held a 14-13 halftime advantage, and piled on the points after the break. UVa ended up on the short end or a 42-13 score after the final whistle. Tech outscored Virginia 28-0 in the second half, the second game in a row where the Cavaliers did not score in the final two quarters of play.

Virginia finishes their season with a final record of three wins and nine losses. Though there are many speculations of the loss being the final time Al Groh toes the sidelines, there has been no announcement on his future with the team. However, after the game his wife and daughter were on hand as Groh ended his post-game press conference by reading a poem entitled "Man in the Glass", which states that the most important person one has to please is himself.
