A Chesterfield County woman who used pillows and a blanket to muffle her crying infant daughter has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect.

Twenty-five-year-old Robin Imani Varner entered the plea Tuesday in Chesterfield Circuit Court in the January 2011 suffocation of 5-month-old Josephina Lee.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Varner told police she placed several pillows and a blanket over the child, who had been crying for several hours.

Varner initially was charged with second-degree murder.

Sentencing has been set for May 2. Varner faces up to 20 years in prison.

Its really disturbin how people who harm children dont get the punishment necesery for the crime.while prisons are over populated by non violent drug offences! Makes u think about this justice system?

My sentiments exactly! And what's with the "involuntary" part? If you deliberately do something, how the heck can it be called involuntary? Oh well, with this justice system, it's surprising she got any time at all (casey anthony).

Why 20 years and not LIFE. This poor innocent baby lost its life so why should mom only loose 20 years or less of hers??? I say suffocate her too. Ugh the nerve of people!! Don't have kids if you can't deal with the stressful situations that come along with it.
