Local Salvation Army Volunteers Host Christmas Day Meals

December 25, 2009

Despite the large number of people seeking the Salvation Army's help this holiday season in Charlottesville, the non-profit group came through for about 60 people seeking a warm lunch and dinner on Christmas Day.

Regardless of the reason people seek the Salvation Army's help, organizers are happy to spend their Christmas serving a warm meal and helping others.

"Most of the folks that come and eat a meal here have difficulty affording a special meal in their own homes, and are also maybe disconnected from family. They may be here because they live distant from family, so we become a extended family here," said Josh Kauffman-Horner.

Friday's Christmas Day menu included turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and yams.
