More than 34,000 electricity customers in Virginia were without power Friday afternoon in the wake of severe storms that downed trees and power lines.
Most of the outages were in Dominion Virginia Power's service area, which includes Richmond, northern Virginia and Hampton Roads.
Dominion said on its website that about 220,000 customers lost power during Thursday's storms. More than 31,600 customers remained without power Friday afternoon. About half of the remaining outages were in northern Virginia.
Appalachian Power reported about 2,500 outages Friday in southwest Virginia.
